The American Curl Standard

committed to breeding and showing the best curls

Welcome New Visitors

Welcome American Curl breeders to The Curl Standard site.  This site has been started to provide a means of communication for Curl enthusiasts around the world, to provide a platform for breeders to ask questions pertaining to the American Curl and to explain the CFA Standard will illustrations depicting the different features of the American Curl cat.

This site is by invitation only.  It will not come up on internet search engines.

The purpose of this site is to:

  • Educate readers on various aspects of the CFA Standard and characteristics of the American Curl cat
  • Define and explain terminology used in the CFA Standard
  • Refine terminology of the CFA Standard
  • Discuss potential changes to the Standard to add clarity and definition to the approved CFA Standard.
  • Help new breeders determine what cats they should be using for breeding and which they should ‘pet out’.
  • Assist Curl breeders to understand what makes for a good ‘show cat’ and what does not.
  • Educate new breeders on show etiquette.

What The Curl Standard.com IS NOT:

  • It is NOT a forum to complain about judging, shows, or other breeders
  • It is NOT a format to redesign the American Curl cat
  • It is NOT a format to re-write the CFA Standard

This site has not been established to promote any particular breeder or a specific breeder’s cats.  It was started by Breed Council Members for the benefit of Curl breeders around the world.   Cats used for demonstration or illustration will be referred to in terminology that will refer to the CAT ONLY and specific features on the cat and not to the cattery or breeder

Evaluating a Curl for Showing

When showing a Curl, there are 100 total points.  If you seriously plan to breed and show American Curls, you need to know how to evaluate the different characteristics the judges will be looking for and the value the Standard gives to each characteristic.  Hopefully, the pages, photos and illistrations on the pages on this site will help you evaluate what is a good show quality cat, what cats you should be including in your breeding program and what cats are best suited to become a new family member for at a new home,
